It wakes me up
It knocks me down
it spins me all around
Chasm Lake, which hides in the bottom of Mt. Lady Washington in Rocky Mountain National Park, is like nothing else I’ve ever seen before. Becca and I spent approximately ten hours on this trail and could have spent another ten if the light lasted forever.
I shot this video and all of the photos on my iPhone. It’s a good example of how sometimes it has nothing to do with the quality of your camera. (Actually it rarely does.) The scenery takes care of the quality, I just followed the light and pressed the shutter button.
My friend, Bonne Finken just released her new album “Gauntlet.” I really like to listen to it when I’m hiking. The album is extremely personal to Bonne in the sense that it represents the gauntlet that she’s fought through in her life to get to where she is today as an artist and a person. You will hear one of her tracks in the video above titled, “My Bullet”. The song really captures my experience of hiking on the Longs Peak and Chasm Lake trails in Rocky Mountain National Park.
I often think of this whenever I summit or finish a difficult hike. When I get back home, I don’t remember all the times I almost fell on my face, the fact that I’m probably drenched from rain, or that my feet ache from balancing on rocks all day. I remember the amazing views.
I don’t think I will ever get “used” to seeing these types of landscapes, which is totally okay with me. I hope you enjoy these images and a small highlight of Becca’s and my day.

When that smoke all blows away
I’d feel the sun in my face
